Wimbledon—London, England

No. 4 seed Andy Murray beat an 11pm curfew and a feisty opponent to reach the fourth-round of Wimbledon on Saturday. Defeating Marcos Baghdatis 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, Murray was forced to increase his intensity and tempo in order to prevent himself from finishing the match on Monday.

Winning 69 percent of his first serve points and striking 10 aces, Murray broke Baghdatis on six occasions, while hitting eight more winners than unforced errors.

Reaching the semifinals of Wimbledon the last three years, Murray will next face Marin Cilic, who won a titanic battle against Sam Querrey, 7-6(6), 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-7(3), 17-15. The match lasted five hours and 31 minutes and featured 23 aces by Querrey to 14 by Cilic.

Elsewhere, American Andy Roddick gave it all he had but couldn’t muster up enough firepower to get by workhorse Spaniard David Ferrer. Dropping the four set encounter, 2-6, 7-6(8), 6-4, 6-3, Roddick left Center Court with a somber look on his face in what could be his last Wimbledon.

Ferrer will next face Juan Martin del Potro, who cast aside Kei Nishikori 6-3, 7-6(3), 6-1.

In other results, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated Lukas Lacko 6-4, 6-3, 6-3; Mardy Fish took out David Goffin 6-3, 7-6(6), 7-6(6); Philipp Kohlschreiber dispatched Lukas Rosol 6-2, 6-3, 7-6(6) and comeback player of the year Brian Baker dismissed Benoit Paire, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
