Polish sensation Iga Swiatek won her first Major title on Sunday in Paris, France, defeating Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin 6-4, 6-1. In a match that lasted a mere one hour and 24 minutes, Swiatek continued her dominant play that saw her win all seven matches in straight sets.
Swiatek in Top Form
Hitting one ace and winning 68 percent of his first serve points, Swiatek broke serve on six occasions, while hitting 25 winners.
Defeating top seed Simona Halep earlier in the event, the 19-year-old never lost more than four in a set throughout her seven wins. Swiatek will move up to a career high of No. 17 in the world when Monday’s rankings are released.
Kenin’s Unforced Error Count
Kenin, who was attempting to win her second Grand Slam of the season, defeated Petra Kvitova in the semifinals. The American had a poor day on serve, winning only 46 percent of her first serve points, 24 percent of her second points and hit 23 unforced errors to 10 winners.
