Mutua Madrid Open—Madrid, Spain

Top seed Carlos Alcaraz continued his strong play on the ATP Tour on Sunday, defeating lucky loser Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to defend his title at the Mutua Madrid Open.

Needing two hours and 25 minutes to seal his victory, Alcaraz dominated the match from start to finish. Striking two aces and winning 67 percent of his first serve points, the 20-year-old Spaniard claimed his fourth title of 2023.

Reaching the semifinals or better of every event that he’s played this year, Alcaraz will now shift his attention to the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, Italy.

Struff, who was playing in his second career final, was attempting to win his first career title. The 33-year-old dismissed Stefanos Tsitsipas, Lorenzo Sonego and Ben Shelton to reach the finals.

The German will be ranked No. 28 in the world on Monday.
