Fritz, Draper Reach Fourth Round of 2025 BNP Paribas Open; Keys Continues to Roll
Monday’s action at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California saw budding British player Jack Draper reach the round of 16, dismissing Jenson Brooksby 7-5, 6-4.
In a match that featured two crafty baseline players, Draper used his lefty serve and spin-oriented forehand to hit 16 winners, two aces, and break serve twice.
Draper, who is currently ranked No. 12 in the world, will next face No. 3 seed Taylor Fritz.
The former winner needed three sets to get past or No. 30 seed Alejandro Tabilo 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Other matches that were completed on Monday featured No. 29 seed Francisco Cerundolo defeating lucky loser Botic van de Zandschulp 6-3, 6-4.
Van de Zandschulp dismissed Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic en-route to the third-round.
Cerundolo will next face No. 9 seed Alex de Minaur. The Australian took out No. 21 seed Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 6-0.
Other matches that are still to come on Monday will be highlighted by No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz taking on No. 27 seed Denis Shapovalov, and No. 14 seed Grigor Dimitrov facing Gael Monfils.
No. 11 seed Ben Shelton and No. 32 seed Brandon Nakashima will also be in action on Monday.
Tuesday’s schedule in Indian Wells will see No. 5 seed Daniil Medvedev face No. 10 seed Tommy Paul, and No. 8 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas go up against No 12 seed Holger Rune.
Keys Continues to Roll
Reigning Australian Open winner Madison Keys continued her strong start to the 2025 season on Monday in Indian Wells, defeating No. 28 seed Elise Mertens 6-2, 6-7(8), 6-4.
The American, who is an impressive 16-1 on the year, hit five aces, won 75 percent of her first serve points and broke the serve of her opponent on six occasions.
Keys will next face either No. 10 seed Emma Navarro or No. 19 seed Donna Vekic for a place in the quarterfinals.
Other matches that are still to come on Monday will include top seed Aryna Sabalenka, No. 6 seed Jasmine Paolini and No. 12 seed Daria Kasatkina.
No. 3 seed Coco Gauff dismissed No. 29 seed Maria Sakkari 7-6(1), 6-2 later in the day, and Sonay Kartal ousted Polina Kudermetova 7-5, 6-3.
Tuesday’s order of play in Palm Springs will be highlighted by No. 2 seed and defending champion Iga Swiatek.
The Polish star will look to reach the quarterfinals when she takes on No. 15 seed Karolina Muchova from the Czech Republic.
