Djokovic Storms into Brisbane Quarterfinals; Keys Wins in Auckland; Rublev Ousted in Hong Kong
All-time Major leader Novak Djokovic advanced to the quarterfinals of the Brisbane International on Thursday, defeating Gael Monfils 6-3, 6-3.
Improving to 20-0 against Monfils in lifetime meetings, Djokovic needed one hour and 13 minutes to secure his victory.
The 37-year-old Serb will next face Reilly Opelka for a place in the semifinals. The towering American dispatched Matteo Arnaldi 7-6(9), 7-6(4).
Other winners on the day included Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard taking out Frances Tiafoe 6-4 7-6(4) and Jakub Mensik dismissing Dusan Lajovic 6-3, 6-2.
On the women’s side, top seed Aryna Sabalenka hit six aces during her 7-6(2), 6-4 victory over Yulia Putintseva. The world No. 1 will next face Marie Bouzkova in the quarterfinals. Bouzkova dismissed No. 10 seed Victoria Azarenka 6-4, 6-4.
Other winners on the day saw Ons Jabeur defeating Elina Avanesyan 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, and No. 8 seed Mirra Andreeva dispatching Linda Noskova 6-3, 6-0.
Andreeva will face Jabeur on Friday.

Thursday’s action in Auckland, New Zealand featured top seed Madison Keys reaching the quarterfinals, defeating Jaqueline Cristian 6-1, 6-2.
Keys, who hit three aces during her straight-forward victory, will next face No. 5 seed Clara Tauson in the final eight.
Other winners on Thursday included Hailey Baptiste, Alycia Parks and Robin Montgomery.
Friday’s schedule in Auckland will feature Naomi Osaka taking on Baptiste. Osaka, who is currently ranked No. 56 in the world, was ranked No. 1 on the computer in January of 2019.

Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open—Hong Kong
Top seed Andrey Rublev continued his poor play on Tour on Thursday, dropping his first match of the 2025 season to Fabian Marozsan.
Losing the near two hour contest 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, Rublev will drop to No. 9 in the rankings after his defeat.
The Russian captured two titles in 2024.
Marozsan will next face Juncheng Shang, who was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over No. 7 seed Pedro Martinez.
Other winners on the day included No. 2 seed Lorenzo Musetti and Spaniard Jaume Munar.
The pair will face each other in the quarterfinals.
Friday’s action in Hong Kong will feature No. 4 seed Arthur Fils taking on Alexandre Muller and Kei Nishikori going up against Cameron Norrie.
