Alcaraz, Gauff, Pegula and Shelton Headline Day 6 at 2025 Cincinnati Open
Sunday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results and Previews from Cincinnati
Sunday’s schedule at the Cincinnati Open in Mason, Ohio will feature No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz playing his first Tour match since losing in the finals of Wimbledon.
Alcaraz, who lost his opening match in Cincinnati last year to Gael Monfils, will be hoping for a deep run in 2025 like he had in 2023 (l. Novak Djokovic). On Sunday, Alcaraz will take on Damir Dzumhur from Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The pair have played once on Tour, with Alcaraz prevailing earlier this year in the third round of the French Open. A tournament Alcaraz won over world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in five, epic sets.
Other matches of note on Sunday will see National Bank Open winner Ben Shelton take on Camilo Ugo Carabelli from Argentina, No. 6 seed Alex de Minaur go up against Reilly Opelka, No. 9 seed Andrey Rublev face Learner Tien, and No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev (a semifinalist in Toronto) will look to reach the third round against Nishesh Basvareddy from the United States.
On Saturday, world No. 1 Sinner collected his quickest victory of the 2025 season, needing 59 minutes to defeat Daniel Elahi Galan 6-1, 6-1.
Sinner, who is currently the reigning champion of three of the four Majors, will next face No. 30 seed Gabriel Diallo from Canada on Monday.
Other winners on Saturday included No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz, No. 7 seed Holger Rune, No. 10 seed Frances Tiafoe and No. 13 seed Tommy Paul.
No. 8 seed Lorenzo Musetti lost for the fifth time in his last six matches when he was ousted in a third set tiebreaker by Benjamin Bonzi.
Musetti had an excellent clay-court season, reaching the semifinals or better of every he played.

Gauff and Pegula take Center Stage
Reigning French Open winner Coco Gauff and US Open finalist Jessica Pegula will play their first matches at the Cincinnati Open on Sunday.
Gauff returns to action against Wang Xinyu from China, and Pegula will take on Kimberly Birrell from Australia.
Both Gauff and Pegula lost earlier than expected in Montreal, and will be looking to hone their skills before the US Open later this month.
Other matches featuring seeded players on Sunday will see No. 7 seed Jasmine Paolini taking on Maria Sakkari, No. 8 seed Emma Navarro facing Ella Seidel, No. 10 seed Elina Svitolina going up against Barbora Krejcikova, and No. 11 seed Karolína Muchova versus Caroline Garcia from France.
On Saturday, top seed Aryna Sabalenka was in cruise control on Centre Court, taking out Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic 7-5, 6-1.
Sabalenka will take on former US Open winner Emma Raducanu on Monday.
Other winners on Saturday featured No. 3 seed Iga Swiatek, No. 5 seed Amanda Anisimova, No. 6 seed Madison Keys, and No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina.
