Alcaraz Defeats Rublev at 2024 ATP Finals in Turin, Italy
Four-time Major winner Carlos Alcaraz picked up his first victory at the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy on Wednesday, defeating No. 8 seed Andrey Rublev 6-3, 7-6(8).
Needing one hour and 36 minutes to prevail, Alcaraz struck 10 aces, won 84 percent of his first serve points, broke serve on two occasions, never faced a break point on his own serve and added 33 winners to his victory.
Improving to 2-1 against Rublev in lifetime meetings, Alcaraz will next face No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev on Friday.
Zverev will take to the court later today against No. 6 seed Casper Ruud. Zverev leads the pair’s head-to-head meetings 3-2, but has lost two of the last three matches against the Norwegian.
Ruud defeated Alcaraz on Monday in straight sets.
Sinner Returns on Thursday
Thursday’s action in Turin will feature No. 5 seed Taylor Fritz taking on No. 7 seed Alex de Minuar and No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner going for a perfect 3-0 record in the group stage vs. No. 4 seed Daniil Medvedev.
Sinner defeated Fritz in straight sets on Tuesday, while Medvedev ousted de Minaur in two sets.
