Alcaraz, Nakashima Clash for Place in Japan Open Semifinals

Top seed Carlos Alcaraz took one step closer to his eighth title of the year on Saturday at the ATP Tour Japan Open in Tokyo, defeating Zizou Bergs 6-4, 6-3 in one hour and 19 minutes.
Improving to 63-6 on the season, Alcaraz will next face Brandan Nakashima for a place in the semifinals. Nakashima recorded a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Marton Fucsovics from Hungary.
Alcaraz leads Nakashima 1-0 in career head-to-head meetings.
Elsewhere, No. 3 seed Holger Rune advanced over Ethan Quinn 6-4, 6-2, and Jensen Brooksby overcame Luciano Darderi 7-6(7), 6-1 to reach the quarterfinals.
Rune will face Brooksby next, while No. 2 seed Taylor Fritz takes on Sebastian Korda, and No. 4 seed Casper Ruud goes up against Aleksander Vukic from Australia.
China Open—Beijing, China
On Saturday, top seeds Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek marched on at the Beijing Open, respectively, defeating Terence Atmane and Yue Yuan.
Sinner needed three sets to reach the final eight, while Swiatek was a 6-0, 6-3 winner. Sinner will next face Fabian Marozsan, and Swiatek will take on Camila Osorio from Colombia.
Other men’s winners on the day included No. 3 seed Alex de Minaur. The Australian ousted Arthur Rinderknech 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(2).
On Sunday, No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev will take on Corentin Moutet, No. 4 seed Lorenzo Musetti goes up against Adrian Mannarino, No. 8 seed Daniil Medvedev faces Aljeandro Davidovich Fokina, and Learner Tien will be opposite Flavio Cobolli.
Saturday’s results on the ladies side featured No. 5 seed Jessica Pegula, No. 7 seed Qinwen Zheng,
No. 10 seed Clara Tauson, No. 23 Marta Kostyuk, No. 26 seed Linda Noskova, and No. 30 seed Emma Raducanu all advancing.
No. 12 seed Naomi Osaka, No. 14 seed Daria Kasatkina and No. 19 seed Liudmila Samsonova were all ousted.
Osaka was defeated by Aliaksandra Sasnovich 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.
On Sunday, No. 2 seed Coco Gauff, No. 3 seed Amanda Anisimova, No. 4 seed Mirra Andreeva and No. 6 seed Jasmine Paolini will return to action.
