Sinner to Face Shelton in 2025 Australian Open Semifinals
Wednesday’s results from the Australian Open featured top seed and defending champion Jannik Sinner race into the semifinals, dismantling home-country favourite Alex de Minuar 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 in one hour and 48 minutes.
Sinner, who currently owns two Grand Slam titles, will next face No. 21 seed Ben Shelton.
Sinner hit two aces, won 84 percent of his first serve points, struck 27 winners and broke his opponent on six occasions. He also improved to 10-0 against de Minuar in lifetime meetings.
Shelton used nine aces and 75 percent of his first serve points won to defeat Italian Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(4).
Sinner leads Shelton 4-1 in their career head-to-head meetings.
Friday’s other semifinal will highlight No. 2 seed Alexandr Zverev taking on ten-time former winner Novak Djokovic. Djokovic leads the pair’s head-to-head 8-4.
Key’s has the Answer
No. 19 seed Madison Keys continued her dream season on Tour on Tuesday, defeating No. 28 seed Elina Svitolina 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the Australian Open semifinals.
Keys hit six aces, won 77 percent of her first serve points, and broke serve on two occasions against her Ukrainian opponent.
Improving to 12-1 on the season, Keys will next face No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek. The Polish star easily defeated No. 8 seed Emma Navarro 6-1, 6-2 in one hour and 29 minutes.
Swiatek, who owns five Major titles, has a 4-1 head-to-head edge over Keys in lifetime meetings.
Thursday’s second semifinal in Melbourne will feature top seed and two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka taking on her good friend and No. 11 seed Paula Badosa.
Sabalenka leads Badosa 5-2 in their lifetime meetings.
