Reviewing the Nike Air Zoom Vapor Cage 4 for Rafa Nadal

Meeting the demands of 19-time Grand Slam winner Rafa Nadal, the all-new Nike Air Zoom Vapor Cage 4 has already become a popular shoe on Tour amongst the world’s best players.

Fusing the popular characteristics of the Zoom Cage 3 and the Vapor X, Nike’s intention of bringing forth a durable yet light offering did come forth with its challenges.

For players with a wider foot, this shoe will fit true-to-size, but if you’re foot is more toward a narrower shape, then it’s recommended that you go down half a size. Coupled with the fit issue, the Zoom Vapor Cage 4 does require a break-in period. For fans of the Vapor X (which requires no break-in), the Zoom Cage 4 will require anywhere from a 30 minute to three hour break-in period. Depending on style of play and demand, of course.

That said, the durability and traction of the shoe is by far one of the best that Nike has created in recent memory. Featured with a 6-month outsole durability guarantee, the Zoom Vapar Cage 4 provided excellent grip when chasing down shots that were hit out-wide and the silhouette was equally as impressive when changing directions laterally to vertically.

The lacing system was also impressive in the latest iteration of the Cage series. The half-hidden lace design truly does provide toe draggers and the modern generation of players ease and comfort when sliding on hard-courts.

In terms of overall playability, the Zoom Vapor Cage 4 provides ample breathability for a bulkier shoe and the zoom air unit in the forefoot provides the bounce that most players are looking for when spending hours on the court. After playing for 15-20 hours, there was no visible wear-and-tear to the sole.

Overall, if you’re looking for a durable offering from Nike, then this is your best bet. The Vapor X will continue to be the flag-ship choice for Nike players on Tour and that is simply because of its form fit and light-weight feel.

However, if you do burn through shoes on a consistent basis, then it’s best to opt for the Zoom Vapor Cage 4 and you won’t be disappointed.

Available in men’s and women’s sizing, Rafa Nadal’s Zoom Cage Vapor 4 can be purchased by visiting the following stores:
