Second seed Aryna Sabalenka continued her dominant season on the WTA on Saturday in Madrid, Spain, defeating No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to claim the Mutua Madrid Open.
Needing two hours and 26 minutes to seal her victory, Sabalenka struck five aces, won 63 percent of her first serve points and broke serve on four occasions.
Losing to Swiatek recently in the Stuttgart, Germany, Sabalenka remains the one of the favourites to win the French Open this year.
Sabalenka, who claimed her first career Major at the Australian Open in January, has shown steady improvement on clay throughout her career.
Swiatek will next see action at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, Italy
Sunday’s action in Madrid will feature top seed Carlos Alcaraz taking on lucky loser Jan-Lennard Struff for the title.
Alcaraz, who has also been dominating the men’s Tour, will be looking for title four on the year.
Struff will be aiming to win his first career title.
