Zverev Defends Munich Title; Sousa Wins Estoril Crown; Daniel Claims Maiden Title in Istanbul

Top seed Alexander Zverev won his second consecutive title in Munich, Germany on Sunday, defeating countryman Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-3, 6-3.

In a straight-forward encounter which featured 70 minutes of match time, Zverev won 80 percent of his second serve points, struck four aces and broke the serve of his opponent four times. Tying his head-to-head with Kohlschreiber at 2-all, Zverev also won the seventh title of his young career.

Kohlschreiber, who was aiming to win his ninth career title, previously won in Munich on three separate occasions.

Millennium Estoril Open—Estoril, Portugal

Joao Sousa delighted his hometown fans on Sunday in Estoril, Portugal by defeated American Frances Tiafoe 6-4, 6-4 to capture his third career title. After a competitive first set which saw three breaks of serve, Sousa broke out to 4-0 lead in the second set before serving for the match at 5-2. Not to be outdone, Tiafoe staved off elimination by breaking serve in the eighth game of the second set and then subsequently holding his own serve.

Serving for the match a second time, Sousa made sure that the title wouldn’t slip out of his grasps by closing out his younger opponent in one hour and 19 minutes.

Tiafoe, who was looking to win his second title of the year after winning in Delray, Beach in February, defeated No. 2 seed Pablo Carreno Busta in the semifinals.

TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open—Istanbul, Turkey

Japanese star Taro Daniel won his maiden ATP World Tour title on Sunday in Istanbul, Turkey, defeating Malek Jaziri 7-6(4), 6-4. Needing two hours and 22 minutes to seal his victory, Daniel used his consistent baseline game to upend his flashy opponent. Striking two aces and breaking serve on three occasions, Daniel improved to 7-7 on the season.

Jaziri, who was also in search of his first career title, is currently ranked No. 78 in the world. Daniel currently stands at No. 114.
