Last year’s US Open saw the return (if you could call it that) of Novak Djokovic to top form. After winning Wimbledon just a month before, Djokovic was in sublime form at the US Open, defeating Juan Martin del Potro in the final. It was the Serbian’s third US Open and 15th Grand Slam overall, and he deservedly topped the ATP rankings list after it.
Djokovic was the betting favorite last year, and it isn’t any different this year. Bookies have put him in the driving seat for the upcoming US Open and it’s no surprise at all. Djokovic is playing at a high level once again this season, winning a record 7th Australian Open. He fell to Thiem at the French Open but is expected to make a deep run at Wimbledon.
At the moment, the best bookies of 2019 all have Novak Djokovic at the top of the favorites list to lift the US Open trophy. As expected, Roger Federer comes next after him, with Rafael Nadal trailing close behind. With top players such as Andy Murray and del Potro missing the tournament, young guns such as Zverev and Thiem have raced ahead on betting favorite lists, and they’re all eager to win their first Grand Slam title.
Novak Djokovic
With odds of 5/4, Novak Djokovic is the heavy favorite for the upcoming US Open and it shouldn’t be a surprise. After winning the tournament for the third time in his career last year and the Australia Open this year, the Serbian is back to his best on hard surfaces, and it’ll be hard to stop him.
Of course, Djokovic certainly won’t be a punter’s favorite at those odds. If you like a good value bet, you’ll need to look past the Serb.
Roger Federer
Roger Federer will be 38 when US Open starts, and even at that ripe age, he continues to defy expectations and is always among the top 3 betting favorites regardless of the tournament. Fresh off a 10th Halle crown, Federer has had quite a fruitful year, although without any Grand Slam trophies. It remains to be seen if he can win a record 9th Wimbledon or get back to winning ways at the US Open.
Last year, the Swiss maestro was inexplicably defeated by John Millman in the quarter-finals, and he’ll surely be looking to go further in the draw this year. Federer’s odds to win the US Open are 11/2 and look quite good to us. Federer hasn’t won the US Open since 2008 and is in the twilight of his brilliant career, so he’ll surely give his best effort.
Rafael Nadal
Even though hard surfaces aren’t his forte, the King of Clay is not a player to be underestimated. Nadal already has 3 titles at the US Open, winning the last one in 2017. His odds of 4/1 offer solid value for many bettors who are sure that Djokovic won’t repeat last year’s success.
A fierce competitor that fights to the last breath, the Spanish tennis legend will surely like to win another US Open and move a Grand Slam title closer to Federer’s record.
Time for the Young Guns to Shine?
With Juan Martin del Potro and Andy Murray out of the picture, players such as Sascha Zverev and Dominic Thiem have entered title races on their place. Zverev is right below the top 3 betting favorites with odds of 11/1, but ahead of big-serving former US Open champion Marin Cilic at 20/1.
Teenage sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas has odds in the area of 25/1 just like Dominic Thiem. If you think that someone outside from the Big Three will win this year’s US Open, a bet on any of these players will nicely boost your bank account.
