Victoria Mboko confirms withdrawal from 2026 National Bank Open due to injury
[TORONTO, ON] July 7, 2026 – Canadian and reigning women’s singles champion Victoria Mboko (Burlington, ON) has confirmed her withdrawal from the 2026 National Bank Open presented by Rogers (NBO) due to a knee injury.
The 19-year-old sustained the injury during her match against Czechia’s Karolina Pliskova at the HSBC Championships in London, Great Britain last month.
Despite being unable to play in this year’s edition, Mboko intends to visit Sobeys Stadium and make several fan-facing appearances during the tournament. Full details will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
“Some tournaments mean a little more than others,” Mboko said. “But the National Bank Open means everything to me. Not being able to play at home this summer in front of the people I love and with the support of the Toronto crowd is deeply disappointing as it has been something I’ve been looking so much forward to.”
“First and foremost, we wish Vicky [Mboko] the very best with her recovery and hope to see her back on court as soon as possible,” said Karl Hale, Tournament Director, NBO Toronto. “It’s never easy when any player is forced to withdraw due to injury and it’s especially disappointing in Vicky’s case because we were all looking forward to watching her title defence in her hometown of Toronto.
That said, she is still very young, and our fans will have plenty of opportunities to see her play in Canada, and Toronto, over the course of her career. Looking forward, we’re very excited to confirm our player list this week as we prepare to welcome the world’s top players to our event. The WTA Tour has incredible strength-in-depth, and we know our fans are excited to see them in action.”
The entry list for the WTA event in Toronto will be revealed on Wednesday, July 8, with remaining wild cards announced closer to the tournament after it was confirmed last Thursday that Venus Williams has received a main-draw singles wild card.
