Venus Williams Becomes Oldest WTA Tour Singles Match Winner Since Martina Navratilova in 2004
Venus Williams, 45, became the oldest player to win a WTA Tour-level singles match in more than 21 years on Tuesday night by defeating 23-year-old Peyton Stearns, 6-3, 6-4, at the Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington, D.C.
The seven-time Grand Slam singles champion is the oldest player to win a WTA Tour-level singles match since then-47-year-old Martina Navratilova at Wimbledon in 2004. It was Williams’ first singles match in 16 months and her first singles win in nearly two years (2023 Cincinnati).
Williams’ next match is against 27-year-old world No. 24 Magdalena Frech (POL) on Thursday, their first career meeting.
