Tommy Paul First Commitment to 2025 US Clay

HOUSTON (November 21, 2024) – Tommy Paul has been announced as the first player to commit to play the 2025 Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship.

An Olympic medal winner for Team USA this summer, Paul returns to Houston for the fourth time when he plays in the only ATP Tour clay court event in North America, which will be held March 29-April 6 at River Oaks Country Club.

“We are thrilled Tommy will be coming back to Houston, especially on the heels of his excellent 2024 season,” said Tournament Director Bronwyn Greer. “The interest since our 2024 final has truly been unprecedented, so we are eagerly counting down the days until we can bring everyone back together once again for another tournament.”

Paul’s 2024 season was the best of his career, with three ATP Tour titles and a personal-best 45 match wins. He ended the season at his career-high ranking of No. 12 after lifting the trophy at hard court events in Dallas and Stockholm while also claiming the title on grass courts at London’s Queen’s Club.

The 27-year-old Paul added a runner-up finish at Delray Beach, semifinals at Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells and Rome and the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

In his second appearance with Team USA at the Olympics, Paul teamed up with Taylor Fritz to claim the doubles bronze medal in Paris while also reaching the singles quarterfinals.

Paul’s 2023 season that was highlighted by finals at Acapulco and Eastbourne along with semifinal appearances at the Australian Open and Masters 1000 in Toronto.

In 2016, Paul made his US Clay debut and earned his first-ever ATP Tour match win. He’s twice reached the Round of 16 in his three previous appearances at River Oaks.

That ATP breakthrough came less than a year after a sensational junior campaign in 2015 that included the French Open title and a runner-up finish at the US Open while reaching No. 3 in the rankings.

Born in New Jersey, Paul grew up playing on clay courts in North Carolina.

Founded in 1910, the 2025 U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship will be the 89th tournament hosted by River Oaks Country Club. In 2024, Ben Shelton defeated Frances Tiafoe in an all-American singles final while the Australian duo of Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson won their second straight doubles title.
