No. 3 seed Dominic Thiem capped off another successful week on the ATP Tour on Sunday by claiming his 13th career title and second of the season over Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-0 in Barcelona, Spain. After overcoming a 0-3 deficit in set one, Thiem reeled off 12 straight games over his fatigued opponent.

Medvedev, who made the semifinals of Monte Carlo last week and upended Kei Nishikori in a tough semifinal encounter on Saturday, ran out of steam during the championship encounter.

Thiem, who struck 15 winners and won 74 percent of his first serve points, had defeated top seed and defending champion Rafael Nadal in the semifinals. Winning the biggest title of his career in Indian Wells, California earlier this year in March, Thiem clearly positioned himself with Sunday’s victory as a candidate to win next month’s French Open.

Thiem and Medvedev will next see action at the Madrid Open in Spain.

Hungarian Open—Budapest, Hungary

Italian youngster Matteo Berrettini captured his second career title on Sunday in Budapest, Hungary, dismissing Serbian Filip Krajinovic 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Overcoming the loss of the first set, Berrettini used his height to slam six aces, win 84 percent of his first serve points and break his opponent on four occasions.

Berrettini, who had previously won the title in Gstaad, Switzerland last year, is currently ranked No. 55 in the world. The 23-year-old will move to approximately No. 38 in the rankings on Monday.

Krajinovic, who was in search of his first career title, previously made the finals of the ATP Tour Masters event Paris back in 2017.
