Defending its 2022 title, Team Canada will face Italy, Sweden and Chile in the Davis Cup Group Stage in Bologna

Montreal, March 29, 2022 – The official draw for the 2023 Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals took place today in Malaga, Spain, and Team Canada presented by Sobeys, the No. 1-ranked nation and defending Davis Cup champions, found out which countries it will face in the Davis Cup Group Stage in September.

The 16 countries that qualified for the Finals were divided into four groups, and Canada, as the highest- ranked team, was picked to be the top-seed of Group A, along with Italy, Sweden and Chile. The four countries will now play each other in a round-robin tournament that will be held at the Unipol Arena.

“In 2022, our unbelievable run in Malaga was a dream come true, and I am extremely proud of what the team and our country managed to accomplish,” said Team Canada captain Frank Dancevic. “As we get set to launch our title defence, we expect the pressure to be on us, and we can’t wait to prove to the world that we truly belong at the top. Back-to-back champions has a nice ring to it, and we will do everything we can to keep the Davis Cup trophy in Canada.”

Each group will play the round-robin portion of the event in a different city – Bologna, Manchester, Valencia and a city yet to be determined in Croatia – from September 12 to 17. The top two teams from each group (based on wins, then percentage of sets and games won/lost) will qualify for the Final 8 knockout stage (quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals), to be held on November 21-26, 2023, at the Palacio de Deportes Jose? Mari?a Marti?n Carpena in Malaga, Spain.
