Swiatek, Tsitsipas Reach Fourth Round of Italian Open
Top seed and clay-court wizard Iga Swiatek raced into the fourth round of the Italian Open on Monday, defeating former world No. 1 Angelique Keber 7-5, 6-3.
Breaking serve on four occasions and adding two aces to her victory, Swiatek will next face No. 18 seed Madison Keys for a place in the semifinals.
Keys ousted Sorana Cirstea 6-2, 6-1 earlier in the day.
Elsewhere, No. 3 seed Coco Gauff, No. 7 seed Qinwen Zheng and No. 9 seed Jelena Ostapenko all reached the final eight of the event.
On the men’s side, recent Monte Carlo winner Stefanos Tsitsipas advanced over No. 27 seed Cameron Norrie 6-2, 7-6(1). The Greek star will next face No. 9 seed Alex de Minaur for a place in the quarterfinals.
De Minaur defeated No. 18 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-4 on the Grand Stand Arena.
Rublev Ousted
Other men’s results on the day saw Madrid Open winner Andrey Rublev losing to Alexandre Muller 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 and and No. 14 seed Tommy Paul dispatching Dominik Koepfer 6-4, 6-3.
Tuesday’s action in Rome will feature Swiatek, Alexander Zverev and Grigor Dimitrov.
