Swiatek, Sinner Reach Cincinnati Open Semifinals
Saturday’s action at the Cincinnati Open in Mason, Ohio featured the top ranked players in the world on both Tours advancing to the semifinals.
First up, Iga Swiatek took out future top-tenner Mirra Andreeva 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Using her experience and forehand to great effect, Swiatek smashed six aces, won 74 percent of her first serve points and broke serve on two occasions.
Andreeva, who had defeated Jasmine Paolini, Karolina Pliskova and Emma Navvaro earlier in the event, is currently ranked at a new career high of No. 21 in the world.
No. 3 seed Aryna Sabalenka also reached the final four by taking out No. 10 seed Liudmila Samsonova 6-3, 6-2.
On the men’s side, reigning Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner avenged a loss to Russian Andrey Rublev in Montreal last week, defeating the 26-year-old 4-6, 7-5, 6-4

Sinner, who is looking to peak for next week’s US Open, will face either No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev or No. 12 seed Ben Shelton for a place in Monday’s final.
The Italian secured his victory over Rublev by producing 10 aces and winning 84 percent of his first serve points.
Matches that are still to come on Saturday will feature No. 6 seed Jessica Pegula vs. Leylah Fernandez and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova vs. Paula Badosa.
On the men’s side, Jack Draper will take on No. 15 seed Holger Rune and No. 5 seed Hubert Hurkacz faces fan favourite Frances Tiafoe.
