Swiatek, Sinner and Osaka Advance to US Open Second Round
Tuesday’s action at the year’s final Major at the US Open saw top seed Iga Swiatek breeze into the second round, defeating Kamilla Rakhimova 6-4, 7-6(6).
Swiatek, who is a former winner of the event, hit five aces, won 71 percent of her second serve points and broke the serve of her Russian opponent on three occasions.
Chasing her sixth Grand Slam, Swiatek will next face Daria Saville or Ena Shibahara for a place in the third round.
Other winners on the day included No. 4 seed Elena Rybakina, No. 15 seed Anna Kalinskaya, No. 21 Mirra Andreeva, No. 25 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, No. 31 seed Katie Boulter, Ashlyn Krueger and Caroline Wozniacki.
No. 11 seed Danielle Collins played her final US Open, losing 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 to Caroline Dolehide.
Later in the day, Naomi Osaka defeated No. 10 seed Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-2.
Needing only 64 minutes to prevail, Osaka hit nine aces and 19 winners against her Latvian opponent.
Osaka will next face Karolina Muchova in the round of 64.
No. 6 seed Jessica Pegula will face Shelby Rogers and former winner Bianca Andreescu goes up against No. 5 seed Jasmine Paolini during the night session.

Sinner Advances; Tsitsipas, Auger-Aliassime Ousted
Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas could not overcome the stiff challenge of his opponent at the US Open on Tuesday, losing to Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Needing just shy of four hours to advance, Kokkinakis struck 47 winners, won 80 percent of his points at net and struck 17 aces.
Picking up his second victory at the US Open, Kokkinakis will next face Nuno Borges for a place in round three.
Borges ousted Federico Coria in three easy sets.
Top seed Jannik Sinner required four sets to prevail against Mackenzie McDonald, and will take on Alex Michelsen next.
Advancing by a scoreline of 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2, Sinner hit 38 winners during the two hour and 24 minute encounter.
Seeded players that also advanced on Tuesday included No. 7 seed Hubert Hurkacz, No. 25 seed Jack Draper and No. 30 seed Matteo Arnaldi.
Unseeded players that advanced included Jordan Thompson, Mariano Navone and Adrian Mannarino.
Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime lost in easy fashion to Jakub Mensik 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.
Four-time Major winner Carlos Alcaraz be in action later on Tuesday.
