Saturday’s action at Roland Garros featured top seed Iga Swiatek easily advancing to the fourth round of the event, dismissing Wang Xinyu 6-0, 6-0.
Swiatek, who is the overwhelming favourite to win the title, will next face Bianca Andresscu or Lesia Tsurenko.
No. 4 seed and reigning Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina was forced to withdraw from the event due to illness. Her opponent Sara Sorribes Tormo reached the round of 16 at a Major for the first time in her career.
Elsewhere, Coco Gauff advanced past 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-1, and No. 14 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia also made the fourth round with a tough 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Ekaterina Alexandrova.
On the en’s side No. 4 seed Casper Ruud, No. 6 seed Holger Rune and No. 27 seed Yoshihito Nishioka all made the fourth round. No. 15 seed Borna Coric was defeated by Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-2.
Later in the day No. 23 seed Francisco Cerundolo upset No. 9 seed Taylor Fritz 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. The final match of the day saw No. 22 seed Alexander Zverev dispatch No. 12 Frances Tiafoe 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-1, 7-6(5).
Sunday’s schedule of play in Paris will be highlighted by Carlos Alcaraz, Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic.
