Swiatek, Alcaraz Advance to French Open Quarterfinals
Top seed Iga Swiatek rolled into the quarterfinals of the French Open on Sunday, rolling past Anastasia Potapova 6-0, 6-0.
Dishing out a double bagel victory in just 40 minutes, Swiatek slammed three aces, won 94 percent of her first serve points and broke serve on six occasions.
The No. 1 seed will next face No. 5 seed Marketa Vondrousova for a semifinal birth. Vondrousova ousted Olga Danilovic 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 20 minutes.
Elsewhere, reigning US Open winner Coco Gauff cruised into the final eight, dispatching Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-1, 6-2. The 20-year-old American will take on No. 8 seed Ons Jabeur or Clara Tauson on Tuesday.
Alcaraz Advances to the Quarterfinals
No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz progressed to the quarterfinals of Roland Garros on Sunday, defeating No. 21 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.
Alcaraz, who has returned from an arm injury to play in Paris, will next face Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas. The No. 9 seed was made to work against Italian Matteo Arnaldi, advancing by a score of 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-2.
Monday’s action at Roland Garros will feature Novak Djokovic, Aryna Sabalenka, Alexander Zverev and Elena Rybakina.
