Italian star Jannik Sinner capped off an impressive week of tennis in Beijing, China, defeating No. 2 seed Daniil Medvedev 7-6(2), 7-6(2) to capture his ninth career title.
Needing two hours and two minutes to seal his victory, Sinner struck three aces, won 82 percent of first serve points and hit 29 winners in total.
Capturing his first win against Medvedev in seven meetings, Sinner also defeated top seed Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals. The 22-year-old will be ranked No. 4 in the world on Monday.
Medvedev, who was aiming to win his sixth title of 2023, will remain at No. 3 in the world when Monday’s rankings are released. The 27-year-old has had a great year on Tour, including reaching the finals of the US Open.

Rolex Shanghai Masters—Shanghai, China
Wednesday’s action at the Rolex Shanghai Masters featured two, three-time Major winners fall in the first round.
First up, Stan Wawrinka was sent packing by Dusan Lajovic 6-4, 7-6(7), followed by Andy Murray losing to inform Roman Safiullin, 6-3, 6-2.
Elsewhere, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Mackenzie McDonald and Cristian Garin all advanced to the second round. French favourite Richard Gasquet was also ousted in the opening round by Zhizhen Zhang, 6-1, 6-2.
Thursday’s schedule of play in Shanghai will be highlighted by Arthur Fils and Diego Schwartzman.
