Romanian becomes the 25th player in history of the WTA to earn the No.1 ranking
Simona Halep is set to become the new WTA World No.1 for the first time in her career when the updated rankings are released on Monday, October 9. By reaching her 27th career final at the China Open, the Romanian will become the first woman from her country to hold the top spot and 25th overall in the history of the WTA.
Halep holds a 44-14 win-loss record this year, reaching three consecutive finals during the European clay swing including a title win at the Mutua Madrid Open, and runner-up at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia (Rome) and Roland Garros. In addition, Halep was runner-up at the Western & Southern Open (Cincinnati).
