Rune Rolls into 2025 Barcelona Open Quarterfinals
Wednesday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results
Wednesday’s action at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell in Barcelona, Spain saw No. 6 seed Holger Rune race into the quarterfinals, defeating Sebastian Baez 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 on his third match point.
Needing one hour and 48 minutes to advance, Rune hit one ace, won 62 percent of his first serve points, broke serve on six occasions and completed his victory with 22 winners.
Rune will next face either No. 2 seed Casper Ruud or Hamad Medjedovic from Serbia.
Other winner on the day featured inform Arthur Fils defeating Pedro Martinez 6-3, 6-2. The No. 7 seed will next face No. 3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas or Sebastian Korda.
Top seed Carlos Alcaraz will be in action on Thursday. The Spaniard will take on Laslo Djere from Serbia.

Inform Italian Luciano Darderi won his seventh match in a row on the ATP Tour on Wednesday, defeating Miomir Kecmanovic 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-4 in two hour and 29 minutes.
Recently winning his second career title in Marrakech, Morocco, Darderi will next face No. 2 seed Ben Shelton or Botic van de Zandschulp for a place in the semifinals.
Other matches that are still on deck on Wednesday will include top seed Alexander Zverev and wildcard German Yannik Hanfmann.
Hanfmann ousted recent Miami Open winner Jakub Mensik in the opening round.
Friday’s schedule in Munich will see No. 4 seed Ugo Humbert and No. 5 seed Francisco Cerundolo.

In a battle between sisters, No. 6 seed Mirra Andreeva advanced when her sibling Erika was forced to retire in the second set of their first round encounter, trailing 6-2, 1-0.
Andreeva, who has been on fire this year with her rise into the top 10, will next face Ekaterina Alexandrova for a place in the quarterfinals.
Alexandrova defeated Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets earlier in the week.
Matches that are still to come on Wednesday will include No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek, No. 8 seed Diana Shnaider, and German star Tatjana Maria.
Top seed Aryna Sabalenka will be in action later this week.

Open Capfinances Rouen Metropole
No. 2 seed Linda Noskova reached the second round in Rouen, France on Wednesday, defeating Bernarda Pera 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.
Needing two hours and 18 minutes to advance, Noskova hit nine aces, won 71 percent of her first serve points and broke her American opponent on four occasions.
Noskova wil next face either former US Open winner Bianca Andresscu or Suzan Lamens from the Netherlands.
