New Balance and Coco Gauff Launch Tennis Star’s First Signature Shoe – Coco CG1

The youngest Major Tournament Finalist Since 2004, Coco Gauff, takes her successes to the next level with her own signature shoe

Boston, MA – July 25th, 2022 – New Balance, together with tennis star Coco Gauff, officially unveil the current World #11’s first signature shoe, the New Balance Coco CG1, at an exhibition match in Atlanta. The New Balance Coco CG1 launches with two colorways, Pompey and DigiCoco, just ahead of the US Open on August 26th on www.newbalance.com and select global retailers with the suggested retail price of $170.

The New Balance Coco CG1 is a mid-top, 90’s inspired silhouette built with the brand’s most innovative technology and design details, meant to transcend the worlds of sport and fashion. Coco worked closely with the New Balance design team to make sure the importance of family was at the forefront of her creative inspiration, as well as her desire to drive the next generation.

“The entire team at New Balance from design, to marketing, truly cares about me as a person and not just an athlete and that relationship allowed us to create the Coco CG1,” says Team New Balance Athlete Coco Gauff. “I signed with New Balance at such a young age and I am so excited to know that I will continue to work with them for a long time into the future! The Coco CG1 is a vintage looking shoe with a modern twist, and I am so excited to get this in stores and see how people style it!”

The Coco CG1 features a FuelCell midsole, meant to deliver a propulsive feel in a players lateral footwork together with Energy Arc technology that pairs sport-specific carbon fiber plate geometry with strategic midsole voids, designed to increase stored energy to deliver a higher amount of total energy returned. A full-length NDurance rubber outsole delivers the durability and traction needed for multi court play. Designed for comfort and stability during grueling matches, the Coco CG1 has a FitWeave Lite upper for targeted stretch and support where needed.

The Coco CG1 includes hidden design details such as Coco’s signature incorporated on the tongue and upper material. Consumer can also find a basketball on the left heel and a track spike on the right heel representing her parents collegiate sports. Finally, the right toe includes a quote from Corey Gauff which says “You can change the world with your racket” and the left toe includes the coordinates of the park where Coco grew up playing tennis.

“We’re thrilled to introduce Coco’s signature shoe and are so passionate about what it represents for her and her fans around the world,” says Evan Zeder, New Balance Head of Tennis Sports Marketing. “Coco is an athlete whose success is continuously defined by the past, but Coco is very clear on creating her own path to success and we are so glad to have her as a part of the New Balance family! Coco has always been focused, on her play, but also being true to herself and her drive for success goes far beyond the tennis court.”

As the youngest woman to reach the Finals of both singles and doubles at a major since 1999, Coco Gauff is determined to pave her own path and use her platform for good along the way. New Balance and Coco Gauff are proud that the Coco CG1 is also the third signature shoe for Team New Balance Women across tennis, running and softball.
