US Open—Flushing, Meadows, New York
No. 4 see Naomi Osaka won her third Major title on Saturday at the US Open, defeating unseeded Belarussian Victoria Azarenka 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. Needing one hour and 53 minutes to claim her crown, Osaka stormed back after losing the first set by striking six aces, winning 61 percent of her first serve points and breaking serve on five occasions. Hitting 34 winners to 24 unforced errors, Osaka became the youngest player to win three Major titles at 23 since Maria Sharapova.
The Japanese super star also walked away with $3 million in prize money for her efforts.
Azarenka, who defeated Serena Williams in the semifinals, was aiming to win her third Major title. The 31-year-old had last made the finals of a grand slam seven years ago.
