Wimbledon—London, England

Two-time former winner Rafael Nadal suffered his earliest loss at a major since the second-round of the 2005 Wimbledon Championships when unhearaled Czech Lukas Rosol took him out, 6-7(9), 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

The match, which featured a 30-minute delay prior to the start of the fifth set because of rain, was highlighted by the flat-hit strokes of Rosol. Striking 65 stunning winners in total, Rosol blasted 22 aces past the Spaniard and won 83 percent of his first serve points. Nadal, who never found his footing at the baseline or the net, struck 41 winners to 16 unforced errors.

Rosol, 26, ranked No. 100 in the world, had never advanced past the third-round of any major in five previous appearances.

Nadal will lose 1155 ranking points for his second-round defeat. The Mallorcan is next scheduled to take part in the summer Olympics which will be held at Wimbledon starting July 28.

Rosol will face Philipp Kohlschreiber for a place in the fourth round.
