Nadal Advances to Italian Open Second Round
Ten-time former winner Rafael Nadal advanced to the second round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, Italy on Thursday, defeating Zizou Bergs 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
After dropping the first set to his inspired opponent, Nadal stormed to a 3-0 in the second set and never looked back.
Playing in reportedly his final season on Tour, Nadal will next face No. 7 seed Hurbert Hurkacz for a place in the third round.
Elsewhere, Dominik Koepfer, Hamad Medjedovic, Jaume Munar, Francesco Passaro and Thiago Seyboth Wild all reached the second round.
Swiatek to Play on Thursday
On the women’s side, No. 7 Qinwen Zheng, No. 10 seed Daria Kasatkina, and No. 29 seed Linda Noskova all reached the third round.
Still to come on Thursday, top seed Iga Swiatek, No. 3 seed Coco Gauff and No. 6 seed Marketa Vondrousova will all be in action.
