Monfils Claims Doha Title; Simon Wins Pune Crown; Kyrgios Advances to Brisbane Final

Gilles Simon defeated Vasek Pospisil in the 2nd round of the BNP Paribas Open. 1-6, 6-0, 6-1

Fourth time was a charm for Frenchman Gael Monfils on Saturday in Doha, Qatar, as he defeated youngster Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-3 for his seventh career title.

Previously losing in the finals of Qatar ExxonMobil Open in 2014, 2012 and 2006, Monfils turned his fortunes around today with an early break in the first set to secure his momentum. Continuing to display his athletic game in set two, Monfils ended the match with 79 percent of his first serve points won, nine aces and three total breaks of serve.

Rublev, who was playing in his second career final, continued to prove that his strong forehand and competitive spirit will aid him up the rankings in 2018.

Tata Open Maharashtra—Pune, India

Frenchman Gilles Simon captured the 13th title of his career on Saturday in Pune, India, defeating Kevin Anderson 7-6(4), 6-2. In a match that lasted one hour and 37 minutes, the first set featured one break of serve by either player before Simon closed out the match in easy fashion. Never defeating his opponent in three previous meetings, Simon is currently ranked No. 89 in world, whereas Anderson is ranked No. 14.

Anderson, who was aiming to win the fourth title of his career, dismissed Benoit Paire in the semifinals.
