Leylah Annie Fernandez, Felix Auger-Aliassime Canadian top seeds at 2026 Wimbledon
[TORONTO, ON] June 26. 2026 – The draw for Wimbledon took place earlier today, with first round
matchups revealed for each of the five Canadians set to feature in the 2026 singles draw. After a week of
qualifying, the third major of the season will kick off on June 29, with final matches taking place on July
12.
Four of the five Canadians competing in singles earned direct entry into their respective main draws:
Leylah Annie Fernandez (Laval, QC), Felix Auger-Aliassime (Montreal, QC), Denis Shapovalov (Richmond Hill, ON), and Gabriel Diallo (Montreal, QC). Mississauga, Ontario’s Bianca Andreescu earned her spot in the main draw after emerging victorious in her three qualifying matches.
In ladies’ doubles, world No. 3 Gabriela Dabrowski (Ottawa, ON) and her Brazilian partner Luisa Stefani will be the No. 2 seeds. Seeded No. 33, Fernandez will again pair up with Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva, with the partnership making its grass-court debut.
Current Canadian No. 1 Victoria Mboko (Burlington, ON) was forced to withdraw from the ladies’ singles main draw earlier this month due to injury.
Leylah Annie Fernandez (World No. 23)
– The 23-year-old’s best result so far this year was a quarter-finals appearance at the Mutua Madrid Open (WTA 1000) in April. In doubles, she reached the final of the HSBC Championships (WTA 500) on grass earlier this month.
– The No. 22 seed will face Indonesia’s Janice Tjen in the first round after losing their two previous
meetings.
Bianca Andreescu (World No. 180)
– The former US Open champion will make her first appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam
since the 2024 US Open.
– To reach the main draw, she defeated Slovenia’s Polona Hercog, Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann and upset world No. 124 Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the final round of qualifying.
– She opens against China’s Shuai Zhang for the pair’s first meeting.
Felix Auger-Aliassime (World No. 4)
– Earlier this month at Roland-Garros, the 25-year-old became the first Canadian singles player to
reach the quarter-finals of every Grand Slam.
– Following the second major of the season, he moved to a career-high ranking of world No. 4.
– He’ll open against Kazakhstan’s Aleksandr Shevchenko. Auger Aliassime was victorious in the
pair’s only other meeting.
Denis Shapovalov (World No. 41)
– Shapovalov’s season highlights include a semi-final at the Dallas Open (ATP 500).
– The world No. 41’s best result at Wimbledon came in 2021 with a trip to the semi-finals.
– He will face Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta in the first round. The two have previously met eight
times, with a head-to-head record of 6-2 in favour of the Spaniard.
Gabriel Diallo (World No. 91)
– Following an injury-ridden clay season, the Montreal native is finding his rhythm again after
advancing to the quarter-finals in Eastbourne earlier this week.
– In February, the 24-year-old helped Canada defeat Brazil at the Davis Cup Qualifiers 1st Round.
– He’ll open against Italy’s Benjamin Bonzi.
Gabriela Dabrowski (World No. 3 – Doubles)
– Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani of Brazil have already teamed up to win a title this season at the
Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships (WTA 1000).
– The Ottawa native has reached the finals at Wimbledon twice before, in 2024 and 2019.
– She awaits the Wimbledon doubles draw later today to find out her potential path to the title.
