Mutua Madrid Open—Madrid, Spain
No. 10 seed Petra Kvitova won her third career title at the Mutua Madrid Open on Sunday, defeating Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands, 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-3. In a titanic encounter that lasted two hours and 52 minutes, Kvitova won the first-set in a hard-fought tiebreaker before Bertens stormed back to take set two. With both players breaking serve on three occasions, it was Kvitova who managed to score an extra break of serve in the deciding set to seal her fourth tournament title of the season.
Increasing her unbeaten streak to 11 straight match wins, Kvitova recently won the title in her native Prague, Czech Republic.
Bertens, who has also had a stellar year on Tour, defeated Caroline Wozniacki, Caroline Garcia and Maria Sharapova en-route to the finals.
