Key players to follow in the 2025 Grand Slam tournaments
The first Grand Slam of 2025 is just around the corner, and all the best talents will be coming out again. So, in anticipation of another tournament cycle, let’s look at who’s likely to deliver the best display.
Australian Open 2025 – 6th-26th January
- Aryna Sabalenka: Sabalenka won last year for the second consecutive time in the women’s singles. She’s a dominant force on the hard courts and will be looking to defend her title once again.
- Qinwen Zheng: Qinwen Zheng lost out in last year’s finals to Aryna Sabalenka, but the Chinese star had a spectacular tournament and all-around year. So this may be the winning time around for Zheng who will be on her fourth attempt for the title.
- Novak Djovokic: With 24-time Grand Slams in the bag, Novak Djovokic is a force to be reckoned with on the court. He didn’t win any Grand Slams last year, so it’s expected that he’ll be back to redeem himself, especially as it’s believed the Serbian is nearing the end of his illustrious career.
- Jannik Sinner: Sinner won his first-ever Grand Slam in a surprise turn of events last year and doubled down with a second in the US Open to become the world number one tennis player in 2024. This Italian pro is now on the radar for players to watch in 2025.

French Open 2025 – 25th May – 8th June
- Carlos Alcaraz: Carlos Alcaraz is the reigning champion for the men’s singles title and is in great form to bag another win in the next tournament.
- Alexander Zverev: It was a close call for Zverev last time around. The current ATP No. 2 has no Grand Slams yet and will be eager to get his first major title after coming runner-up in last year’s French Open and previously in the 2020 US Open.
- Iga Swiatek: The best clay court player in the WTA, Swiatek, is the favorite to win the Roland-Garros title. She’s already on four consecutive wins for women’s singles and could easily bag a fifth one for a total of six career Grand Slams.
Wimbledon 2025 – 30th June-13th July
- Carlos Alcaraz: The Spaniard’s name pops up once more. He’s won twice in a row already at the grass tournament in London. And after his last win where he knocked out Djokovic, he’s an unstoppable force on the Wimbledon grounds.
- Jasmine Paolini: Jasmine Paolini will be eager to take home the honors after coming so close last time. Everyone agrees that Paoloni was one of the most improved players last year. So she’ll be set to break through to her first major title in the summer.
US Open 2025 – 25th August-7th September
- Jannik Sinner: Jannik Sinner won the US Open men’s singles title last time after winning straight sets in both the semi-finals and final. The Italian can win it for the second year in a row.
- Aryna Sabalenka: Whether Sabalenka wins the Australian Open or not, she’s the top favorite to win in New York once again. Last year, she defeated the home-favorite Jess Pegula in straight sets.
2024 was a mix of expected wins and dramatic upsets. Carlos Alcaraz’s spectacular display saw him bag two Grand Slam titles. On the other hand, Jannik Sinner emerged victorious in the Australian Grand Slam following a shock defeat of former world number 1, Novak Djokovic, during the semi-finals. This year, it’s a case of whether reigning title holders will be able to defend their position or if someone else will make sure it’s their turn to hold down the crown. Either way, we expect that some players will win multiple Grand Slams.
