Jabeur Advances in Adelaide; Monfils Wins in Auckland; Yastremska Progresses in Hobart
Tuesday’s results at the Adelaide International in Australia featured the continued comeback of Ons Jabeur.
The Tunisian star, who has been out of action since Wimbledon, defeated currently world No. 11 Danielle Collins 7-6(2), 6-2.
Needing one hour and 30 minutes to advance, Jabeur hit five aces, won 73 percent of her first serve points and broke serve on four occasions.
Jabeur will next face Yulia Putintseva, who defeated Donna Vekic on Monday.
Other winners on the day saw No. 6 seed Diana Shnaider, No. 8 seed Jelena Ostapenko, Maria Sakkari and Madison Keys all reach the second round.
Wednesday’s action will feature top seed Jessica Pegula, No. 2 seed Emma Navarro, No. 3 seed Daria Kasatkina and No. 5 seed Paula Badosa.
On the men’s side, No. 7 seed Brandon Nakashima, No. 8 seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry, Arthur Cazaux, Marcos Giron, Manuel Guinard, Li Tu, Rinky Hijikata and Miomir Kecmanovic all reached the second round.
Kecmanovic defeated No. 6 seed Alexander Bublik 6-4, 6-2.
Wednesday’s schedule will highlight top seed Tommy Paul, No. 5 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov and former winner Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Tuesday’s action at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand featured Frenchman Gael Monfils overcoming a 1-6, 2-5 deficit to defeat Pedro Martinez 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-3.
Needing two hours and 25 minutes to advance, Monfils hit eight aces, won 75 percent of his first serve points and broke his Spanish opponent on one occasion.
The 38-year-old Frenchman will next face Jan-Lennard Struff for a place in the quarterfinals. Struff ousted Yunchaokete Bu 6-3, 6-4 earlier in the day.
Other winners on Day 2 included Lorenzo Sonego, Mariano Navone, Jakub Mensik, Facundo Diaz Acosta, Nishesh Basavareddy and Luca Nardi.
Nardi advanced when No. 6 seed Flavio Cobolli was forced with retire down 6-2 1-1 with a back injury.
On Wednesday, top seed Ben Shelton and defending champion and No. 2 seed Alejandro Tabilo will be in action.

Top seed Dayana Yastremska needed one hour and 58 minutes to reach the second round of the Hobert International event in Hobart, Australia on Tuesday, defeating Katie Volynets 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Hitting two aces and breaking serve on six occasions, Yastremska will next face Ann Li in the round of 16. Li defeated former US Open champion Sloane Stephens 7-5, 6-1.
Other winners on the day included No. 2 seed Elise Mertens, No. 3 seed Amanda Anisamova, No. 4 seed Magda Linette, Renata Zarazua, Maya Joint and Anna Blinkova.
Former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin caused the upset of the day by dismissing No. 5 seed Lulu Sun 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Wednesday’s schedule in Hobart will feature the top four seeds and No. 6 seed Elina Avanesyan. Avanesyan will take on Greet Minnen from Belgium.
