No. 6 seed John Isner won his sixth career title in Atlanta on Sunday, defeating his compatriot Brandon Nakashima 7-6(6), 7-5. In a match that featured a tight first set, Isner used his world-class serve and experience to gain the advantage over his younger opponent.
Hitting 21 aces and braking serve on one occasion, Isner captured the 16th title of his impressive career. Defeating Taylor Fritz and Jack Sock earlier in the event, Isner will be ranked No. 30 in the world when Monday’s rankings are released.
Nakashima, who advanced to his second straight final on Tour, dispatched top seed Milos Raonic in the second round. The 19-year-old will be ranked No. 89 in the world on Monday.
