Hurkacz Advances to Second Round in Rotterdam; Krueger Wins in Abu Dhabi
Polish star Hubert Hurkacz picked up a much-needed win on Monday at the ABN AMRO Open in the Netherlands, defeating Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 6-2.
Needing one hour and 17 minutes to advance, Hurkacz hit seven aces, won 85 percent of his first serve points and broke his Italian opponent on three occasions.
Improving to 4-4 on the season, Hurkacz will next face Jiri Lehecka or Alexi Popyrin for a place in the quarterfinals.
Other matches that are still on the docket today will highlight No. 6 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, No. 2 seed Daniil Medvedev and local player Mees Rottgering.

Tuesday’s schedule at the WTA 500 level event in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. featured Ashlyn Krueger defeating compatriot Mccartney Kessler 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-3 in two hours and 18 minutes.
Krueger, who is currently ranked No. 51 in the world, hit six aces, won 72 percent of her first serve points and broke her opponent on four occasions.
Krueger will next face No. 3 seed Daria Kasatkina for a place in the quarterfinals.
Other winners on the day included Wakana Sonobe, Katie Volynets and Lulu Sun.
Tuesday’s action in Abu Dhabi will feature No. 6 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, No. 7 seed Jelena Ostapenko and No. 8 seed Leylah Fernandez.

Monday’s results at the Transylvania Open in Cluj-Napoca, Romania featured Viktoriya Tomova and Suzan Lamens reaching the second round.
Tomova defeated Mayar Sherif 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, and Lamens ousted Anna Bondar 7-6(2), 7-6(6).
