Nakashima Captures Hometown Title in San Diego; Sonego Wins Metz Title

No. 5 seed Brandon Nakashima won his first career title on Sunday in San Diego, California,  dispatching No. 3 seed Marcos Giron 6-4, 6-4.

Needing one and 25 minutes to seal his victory, Nakashima hit eight aces, won 79 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on three occasions.

Reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon earlier this year, Nakashima will be ranked No. 48 on Monday.

Giron, who was also looking to win his first-career title, ousted top seed Dan Evans in the semifinals. The American will be ranked No. 53 on Monday.

Moselle Open—Metz, France

Italian star Lorenzo Sonego captured his third career title on the ATP Tour on Sunday, defeating No. 7 seed Alexander Bublik 7-6(3), 6-2 in Metz, France.

Proving that his level-of-play was the best all week, Sonego hit six aces, withstood seven aces from his opponent, won 82 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on two occasions.

Dispatching No. 2 seed Hubert Hurkacz in the semifinals, Sonego will be ranked No. 45 in the world on Monday.

Bublik, who was aiming to win his second career title, defeated No. 4 seed Holger Rune, Stan Wawrinka and Emil Ruusuvuori earlier in the tournament.
