Friday’s quarterfinal action at the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters featured American Taylor Fritz ousting two-time defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2, 6-4 in comfortable fashion.
Fritz will next face Andrey Rublev, who dismissed hard-hitting German Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1, 76(5).
Elsewhere, young Dane Holger Rune reached the semifinals after dispatching Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-4.
Rune, who won the Rolex Paris Masters at the end of last season, will face talented Italian Jannik Sinner for a place in the finals on Saturday.
Sinner defeated countryman Lorenzo Musetti 6-2, 6-2 in the last match of the day. Musetti outlasted world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in a two hour and 54 minute match on Thursday.
