Fritz, Tabilo Reach Italian Open Quarterfinals
Tuesday’s action at the Italian Open in Rome, Italy saw American Taylor Fritz continue his excellent clay-court season, defeating resurgent Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-7(11), 6-1 .
In a match that lasted two hours and 42 minutes, Fritz used his powerful serve to slam down 13 aces, hit 27 winners and break the serve of his Bulgarian opponent on four occasions.
Improving to 2-1 against Dimitrov in lifetime meetings, Fritz will next face either No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev or Portuguese star Nuno Borges.
Elsewhere, inform Chilean Alejandro Tabilo followed up his victory over top seed Novak Djokovic in the previous round by ousting No. 16 seed Karen Khachanov, 7-6(5), 7-6(10).
The 26-year-old, who was born in Toronto, Canada, will await the winner of Zhizhen Zhang or Thiago Monteiro for a place in the semifinals. Tabilo is up to a career-high ranking of No. 28 in the world after his performance in Rome so far this week.

Swiatek Continues to Roll
World No. 1 and clay-court Queen Iga Swiatek took won step closer to winning another Masters 1000 title on Tuesday, dismissing talented American Madison Keys 6-1, 6-3.
Swiatek, who will be aiming for a fourth Roland Garros title later this month, will next face either No. 3 seed Coco Gauff or Chinese star Qinwen Zheng.
Wednesday’s schedule in Rome will be highlighted by continued men’s and women’s quarterfinal action.
