Federer Wins Stuttgart Title; Gasquet Crowned Champion in the Netherlands

MercedesCup—Stuttgart, Germany

Top seed Roger Federer notched his 98th career title in Stuttgart, Germany on Sunday, defeating No. 7 seed Milos Raonic 6-4, 7-6(3). In a match that lasted one hour and 18 minutes, Federer overcame 14 aces by the Canadian and added four of his own, while breaking serve on one occasion. Winning 86 percent of his first serve points, Federer improved to 11-3 against Raonic in lifetime meetings and 21-2 on the season.

Federer will next see action at the Halle, Germany event next week, where he is the defending champion.

Raonic, who was in search of his ninth career title, defeated No. 2 seed and defending champion Lucas Pouille earlier in the week.

Libema Open—s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands

No. 2 seed Richard Gasquet showed off his grass-court prowess in s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands on Sunday, dispatching his countryman Jeremy Chardy 6-3, 7-6(5) to win his 15th career title.

Needing 89 minutes to seal the match, Gasquet struck five aces and won 65 percent of his first serve points. Breaking serve on three occasions, Gasquet also lost his own delivery twice but managed to force a second set tiebreaker after Chardy failed to serve out the set at 5-3.

Improving to 5-1 against Chardy in lifetime meetings, Gasquet also improved to 21-12 in 2018.

Chardy, who has been in great from recently on Tour, won the Challenger title at the Surbiton event in Great Britain last week.
