No. 2 seed Roger Federer won his sixth Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati on Sunday, defeating No. 6 seed David Ferrer 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. Winning a Masters event for the first time since Cincinnati in 2012, Federer hit 32 winners, struck six aces and broke serve on three occasions. Improving to 16-0 against Ferrer in lifetime meetings, Federer also improved to 49-9 on the season. Federer, who lost in the semifinals of the event last year’s to Rafael Nadal, picked up 820 points for his title. Ferrer, who lost in the third round of Cincinnati in 2013, gained 510 points for his finals appearance. Federer and Ferrer will next see action at the US Open.
