Roger Federer claimed his 101st career title at the Miami Open on Sunday, comprehensively defeating John Isner 6-1, 6-4. Using his chip return and serve to great effect, Federer locked up the first set in 24 minutes. Nullifying the towering American’s serve in the opening stages, Federer continued with his master class performance throughout the week, which saw him lose one set during the tournament.
Upending the defending champion, Federer took home 1000 ATP Tour points after losing his first match in 2018.
Isner, who was aiming to defend his title, defeated upcoming star Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals. Isner trailed in both sets against the Canadian 5-3 before winning in straight sets.
