Roland Garros—Paris, France

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic overcame a two sets to love deficit on Sunday at the French Open in Paris, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-7(6), 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.

Showing visible fatigue from his semifinal encounter with Rafael Nadal, Djokovic began the match slowly, with his Greek opponent taking full advantage. Hitting his serve with potency and crushing his ground-strokes into the corners, it looked all but certain that men’s tennis was preparing for a new Major champion.

However, as the third set began, Djokovic had other ideas. Using his unparalleled defence to great effect, Djokovic broke Tsitsipas and never looked back. Cruising through the third and fourth sets, the fifth set was much of the same. Capturing the all important break for a 2-1 one lead, the Serb held onto his edge to complete his comeback.

Earning his 19th Grand Slam title, Djokvoic now trails Roger Federer and Nadal by one title. Owning every Grand Slam title at least twice, Djokovic has now cemented himself as the greatest player ever.

Tsitsipas, who was looking for his maiden Slam crown, defeated Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev earlier in the event. Tsitsipas has had a tremendous season, highlighted by winning the Madrid Open in Spain.
