Mutua Madrid Open—Madrid, Spain
Top seed Novak Djokovic captured his 74th career title and second of the season Sunday in Madrid, Spain, defeating No. 8 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-4. Needing one hour and 32 minutes to claim the title, Djokovic was relentless from the beginning of the match against his younger opponent. Acknowledging that Tsitsipas was tired after his impressive win against Rafael Nadal on Saturday, Djokovic used his angles and drop shots to great effect throughout the encounter.
Winning 78 percent of his first serve points and breaking serve on two occasions, Djokovic also added two aces to his impressive victory.
Positioning himself in great form with the French Open looming, Djokovic has another opportunity to win four straight Majors.
Tsitsipas, who has continued to have a banner 12 months, recently won the titles in Estoril, Portugal and Marseille, France earlier in the year. The 20-year-old also made the final in Barcelona, Spain last year, won the title in Stockholm, Sweden, captured the crown at the ATP Next Gen Finals in Milan, Italy as well as reaching the final in Dubai, U.A.E and the semifinals of the Australian Open.
Tsitsipas has collected wins over Djokovic, Roger Federer and Nadal during his young career.
