Djokovic Wins 7th Wimbledon Title Over Kyrgios in Four Sets

Wimbledon Championships—London, England

Defending champion Novak Djokovic captured his seventh Wimbledon title and 21st career Major at Wimbledon on Sunday, defeating Australian Nick Kyrgios 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3).

In a high-quality match that lasted three hours and one minute, Djokovic withstood 30 aces by his opponent, hit 15 of his own, won 83 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on two occasions.

Capturing his first victory against Kyrgios in three matches, Djokovic now trails Rafael Nadal by one Major at 22.

Kyrgios, who was playing in his first career Major final, struck 62 winners to 33 unforced errors. Defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas earlier in the event, Kyrgios will be ranked No. 45 in the world on Monday.

Djokovic, who overcame a set deficit in three straight matches, will be ranked No. 7 in the world on Monday as a result of the ATP Tour not providing rankings points at Wimbledon this year.

The year’s fourth Major is set to begin in New York City at the US Open on Monday, August 29.

Kyrgios would have been ranked 16 if there were ATP points available.
