Wimbledon—London, England
No. 12 seed Novak Djokovic won his fourth career Wimbledon title on Sunday in London, England, defeating No. 8 Kevin Anderson 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(3). Needing two hours and 19 minutes to claim his victory, Djokovic breezed through the first two sets in comfortable fashion before a competitive third set ensued. Breaking serve on four occasions and saving seven break points against his own serve, Djokovic won 76 percent of his first serve points, 65 percent of his second serve points and hit 20 winners to 13 unforced errors.
Anderson, who had defeated Roger Federer and John Isner earlier in the event, had three set points in the third set but could not convert. The towering South African had also made the finals of the US Open last September, a match he lost in straight sets to Rafael Nadal.
Djokovic now stands with 13 Majors – seven back from Roger Federer’s count of 20 and four behind Nadal’s total of 17.
The Hall of Fame Serbian has zero points to defend for the rest of 2018.
