Tuesday’s action at the US Open saw hometown favourite Coco Gauff take another step forward to her maiden Slam victory by ousting Jelena Ostapenko, 6-0, 6-2.
Winning titles in Washington and Cincinnati, Gauff will next face No. 10 seed Karolina Muchova, who ousted No. 30 seed Sorana Cirstea 6-0, 6-3.
Later in the day, No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic steamrolled past No. 9 seed Taylor Fritz 6-1, 6-4, 6-4. Needing two hours and 35 minutes to advance, Djokovic will next face upstart American Ben Shelton, who defeated last year’s semifinalist Frances Tiafoe in four sets.
Wednesday’s quarterfinal action in New York City will be highlighted by No. 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz vs. No. 12 seed Alexander Zverev, No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka vs. No. 23 seed Qinwen Zheng, No. 10 seed Marketa Vondrousova vs. No. 17 seed Madison Keys and No. No. 3 seed Daniil Medvedev vs. No. 8 seed Andrey Rublev.
