Sunday’s action at the Western & Southern Open in Mason, Ohio featured American sensation Coco Gauff claiming the biggest title of her career over Czech star Karolina Muchova.
Claiming her title with a 6-3, 6-4 scoreline, Gauff needed one hour and 57 minutes to seal her victory. The 19-year-old recently won the title in Washington, D.C. earlier this summer. The former French Open finalist also defeated world No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the semifinals.
Muchova, who made the French Open finals earlier this year, ousted No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals and will be at a career high of No. 10 in the world on Monday.
Gauff will enter the year’s final Major at the US Open as the No. 6th seed.
On the men’s side, a star-studded tussle and match of the year so far featured No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic defeating No. 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz 5-7, 7-6(7), 7-6(4).
Needing three and 49 minutes to prevail, Djokovic struck 28 winners, hit two aces and broke the serve on his Spanish opponent on three occasions.
Tying their head-to-head at 2-2, Djokovic will head to New York as the No. 2 seed.
Djokovic now owns 39 Masters 1000 titles and will head into the US Open has the No. 2 seed.
