Djokovic Claims Eastbourne Title; Sugita Wins Maiden Title in Antalya

Aegon International—Eastbourne, Great Britain

World No. 2 Novak Djokovic claimed his second title of 2017 after he defeated second seed Gael Monfils 6-3, 6-4 in Eastbourne, Great Britain on Saturday. In a match that lasted one hour and 16 minutes, Djokovic broke serve on three occasions and won 76 percent of his first serve points. Playing his first Wimbledon tune up event since 2008, Djokovic improved to 14-0 against Monfils in lifetime meetings.

The three-time former Wimbledon champion will now head to the year’s third Major with some much needed confidence as he attempts to win his 13th career Grand Slam.

Monfils, who was aiming to win his 7th career title, defeated countryman Richard Gasquet in the semifinals.
